What is OBJ on TikTok?
OBJ is a placeholder : a substitute text that appears when the app can't render the original character—usually because the emoji is too new, the font doesn't support it, or the emoji sequence is complex (ZWJ, subdivision flag tag). Instead of displaying the unsupported symbol, TikTok/OS displays the OBJ to keep the text legible. So, OBJ isn't a new emoji or hashtag , but rather an indicator of character mismatch.
Compatibility note. OBJ effects aren't guaranteed to appear on all devices. On newer phones and apps, many complex emojis actually display normally, preventing them from becoming OBJ. That's why we've included some "risky" symbol variations to give you more options to try.
Use sparingly. OBJ effects can make captions look unique, but readability is still a priority. Test them on multiple devices (friends' or family's) to ensure your core message isn't lost due to symbols that fail to render on some audiences.
